Description

Note: This OSD can only be used with devices such as the APM Pirate that support the MAVLink protocol. Flight control cannot rely solely on GPS; it must read the MAVLink protocol.

For standalone use, connect TX and RX to the APM.

For use with data transfer, the OSD’s TX definition does not require connection, and RX can be directly connected.

This OSD automatically recognizes the camera video format. However, if no camera is connected, there is a solder point on the back for selecting the format when there is no camera output. The default is N; for PAL outputs, solder the PAL solder point.

The MinimOSD is based on the Arduino OSD and is designed for flight control using the ArduPilot MEGA and MAVlink protocols.

Its main components are the Arduino ATmega328 MCU and the MAX7456 monochrome screen overlay chip. Programming is done via a 6-pin FTDI-compatible connector.

It features two separate power and ground sections, as well as isolated analog circuitry for the OSD functions: one 5V section for ATMEGA and another 5V section for the OSD function digital circuitry, which can be powered by a cable or other 5V power source for FTDI. It also includes a regulated 5V section powering the OSD function analog circuitry via a video/output interface, capable of handling input voltages up to 12V. Solder jumpers, power, and ground can be combined into two sections as needed.

MinimOSD uses a high-cost, high-efficiency DC-DC regulator, unmatched by older versions of v0.1. The official v0.1 used a linear regulator. With independent power supply, a 12V input caused significant overheating. While parallel power supply solved the overheating issue, it introduced two additional problems: increased power load on the flight controller and signal noise.

MAVLink-OSD eliminates the single-supply mode selection jumper and adopts a fully isolated dual-supply mode.
